The following ordinance was offered by Mr. Sweet in regard to New
City Cemetery which was read and adopted

AN ORDINANCE RELATIVE TO CITY CEMETERY AND PROVIDING FOR THE
IMPROVEMENT OF THE SAME

That as addition be made to the Committee on New City Cemetery consisting of the following persons to wit. J. T. Dashul, G. W. Beck. J. A. Paschal, M. Ultrich and A. A. Lochwood and that said Committe have full power to have the avenues and paths in said Cemetery thinned out and such fence or wall built around the same as in their jugement may be judicious and that they have power to appraise said Lots and to sell the same either at auction or at private sale or both, provided however that such sales be in accordance with the provisions of an ordinance relative to said Cemetery and approved by this Board the present year.

Sec 2nd. Be it further Ordained: that said Committee have full power to appoint a Sexton or person whose business it shall be to take charge of said Cemetery and whose Mode of obtaining and amount of Compensation shall be determined by them.

3rd. Be it further ordained: that any person or persons who shall in any Manner trespass on or deface or injure in any Manner, any ground, Tree, Shrub, Enclosure or any thing belonging or appartaining to said Cemetery, Shall on Conviction complaint being Made before the Mayor and on Conviction before that officer by adjudged to pay a fine of not less than one dollar nor more than one hundred Dollars ($100) together with Costs of Court to each offense and on default to be Commited to the City Jail for a period of not less than five nor more than 30 days.

4th Be it further Ordained: That all burials in said Cemetery shall be uniform that is the heads of all graves shall be in the same direction when practicable, and no burials shall be made in the reserved portion of the ground nor shall any person be buried in the Public or Pottersfield portion of said Cemetery without first obtaining a Written License therefor directed to the Sexton and signed by the Mayor and for any violation of any of the provisions of this section, the same penalties shall be imposed as are specified in Section 3rd.

5th Be it further Ordained: that the Committee be required to make reports to this body every three months of the Numbers of burials Amount received therefor and of all Matters Connected with the improvement of said Cemetery.

6th Be it further Ordained: That the Mayor who shall be chairman of said Committe shall have power to draw on the City Treasury for such Sum or Sums as may be needed to carry out the provisions of this Ordinance proivided however that the Committee or a majority thereof shall first approve the Same and provided further that all crafts shall be on the Cemetery Hand and on no other.

7th Be it further Ordained: That this ordinance shall be published in the English German and Spanish Languages and that it be in force from and after its passage.
